The Last Laugh: Are Women Funnier?

comediva:

A shift has been happening in the women in comedy zeitgeist over the last few weeks – a post-Bridesmaids shift that bodes well for women in comedy with fascinating repercussions for men.

Last time, I wrote about finally putting the tiresome “Girls Aren’t Funny” question to rest, and now that we’ve jumped that hurdle, the conversation is now shifting towards, “Are women funnier than men?”

Community creator Dan Harmon posed this question in a recent interview, surprising everyone.

Harmon has also divulged that having a 50% female writing staff, originally a mandate from former NBC exec Angela Bromstad, has turned out to be invaluable to the clever writing on his show.

A prediction of what home computers will one day be like. Amazingly accurate for the 1960s.

Especially considering that this was also the era that had “When You Marry” Textbooks for high schoolers (http://www.amalah.com/photos/when_you_marry/index.html), which explains that middle class people have less sex, but do more petting that working class people.

Also, “some women are so lacking in talents and interests that housekeeping, even without children, taxes their capacities to the utmost.”

Guess that’s why dad’s paying all the bills on the video screen of the future!

Don’t be afraid to be a fool. Remember, you cannot be both young and wise. Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying yes begins things. Saying yes is how things grow. Saying yes leads to knowledge. “Yes” is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say yes.
