The Last Laugh: Are Women Funnier? →
comediva:
A shift has been happening in the women in comedy zeitgeist over the last few weeks – a post-Bridesmaids shift that bodes well for women in comedy with fascinating repercussions for men. Last time, I wrote about finally putting the tiresome “Girls Aren’t Funny” question to rest, and now that we’ve jumped that hurdle, the conversation is now shifting towards, “Are women funnier than...

commitment issues?
I feel like most of my closest friends, and everyone I admire, are just better versions of me. If I have something in common with you, you’re probably better at it than me, or more nuanced in the subject.
Hello. I may just be a poser.
I like the quarter system because we learn one subject in 10 breezy weeks, instead of having to go in depth on something for a whole semester.
I have ADD...

Why Strong Female Characters Are Bad for Women →
hopesichord:
I think we need a refresher course.
“I think the major problem here is that women were clamoring for “strong female characters,” and male writers misunderstood. They thought the feminists meant [Strong Female] Characters. The feminists meant [Strong Characters], Female.
So the feminists shouldn’t have said “we want more strong female characters.” They should have...

dream big but act practically
This seemed to articulate what I’ve been feeling this past year, and why so many of my friends seem to feel the same way.
Basically: “I feel like our parents (or at least our parents’ parents) had different ideas about jobs and life goals and stuff, but in my generation I feel like instead of having a stable office job being the dream, our stable office jobs are almost...

midterms break
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. If you’ve ever had to take midterms, you understand how I feel right now.
At least with finals, you see them coming a mile away. You get a week off of school to take them. Midterms just disrupt your already hectic week, coming in at you within a brisk 5 week period (for those of us lucky enough to be on a quarter system).
So maybe I’m a little...

– Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words)
I usually think Marilyn’s quotes are wildly overrated (although I do actually like her, and thought she was beautiful). But boring people ARE the worst.
why i don't like diets
Jason: Eat more pizza! If you don't eat it, I'm going to, and I have to watch my figure.
Christina: Isn't MY figure more important?
Jason: No.
Christina: Of course it is! That's why they call it a trophy WIFE.
Jason: I don't need a trophy wife! I'M the trophy!

Twitter Revolution
futurejournalismproject:
The thing about social-media based political revolutions is that go viral very quickly. At least that’s how it seems, now that an imbroglio is sweeping through Egypt in the wake of Tunisia’s so-called Twitter Revolution.
Via Fast Company:
“Massive street protests in Egypt are spreading virally as tech-savvy demonstrators are using Twitpic, Facebook and YouTube...

star struck
I read a lot of blogs that have to do with Hollywood. I guess it’s a guilty-pleasure hobby of mine; keeping up with celebrities and their crazy shenanigans. One of my favorite things to read is ordinary people blowing it with a celebrity (crush). Good times! As long as it’s not happening to me…
Although, the fact that I don’t even have the opportunity to rub elbows with...

another batman groupie
I’ll admit it, I’m a Batman groupie. This is a term that I made up 5 seconds ago when I was thinking of a title for this post, but I think it defines the situation pretty well. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say I watched Batman Begins QUITE a few times, and I have a link to Batman: The Animated Series bookmarked on my browser.
ANYWAY, I guess the big news...
a planet adrift
What a strange age to be. I don’t get it, almost everyone I know seems to be going through the same experience, and yet, no one warned us this would happen!!
Everyone tells you when you’re a kid that when you grow up, you can be anything you want to be. But that’s not really true is it? Because when you grow up there are bills to pay and certain expectations to live up to.

i'm getting old
It’s my senior year of college, and everyone I know who graduated recently is scaring me because all I hear is “Man, I miss college so much!” I still have a few months to go, but I think by the time spring rolls around, I’ll be ready for that diploma. I joked yesterday to someone that I was never a teenager, I turned 12 and then I turned 25. It’s probably more...

holy sh*t!
So I had some left over wine in my fridge and I drank some with dinner a few minutes ago. Anyway, I’m browsing on amazon.com right now, and Amazon is recommending wine glasses for me and my first thought was, “HOLY SH-T… AMAZON IS READING MY MINDDDDDDD” and then I giggled quietly to myself and was a little creeped out. By the way, I drank a VERY LITTLE but now I’m...

Dad: Oh, I thought she was going to jump off the cliff
Mom: Good thing you're not writing this script
Dad: Yeah, then it'd be "Romeo and Juliet"
Mom: No... then it'd REALLY be "Leap Year"!
